  • 250g tomato ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • garlic granules to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the cola, ketchup, onion, garlic granules and hot pepper sauce. Cook over medium heat until reduced by a third and thickened.

I really like this recipe, it is really quick, and I have made it several times. I add stuff though, some of the things I might throw in are: a 1/2 bottle or so of purchased honey barbeque sauce, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a little brown sugar, and a dash of chili powder. How to Make BBQ Sauce

  1. Combine Ingredients: Combine all of the ingredients in a sauce pan.
  2. Bring to a boil: After being over medium heat for a few minutes, large bubbles will start to appear.
  3. Reduce to a simmer: You should turn the heat down after it boils and allow it to simmer, seeing only intermittent bubbles.
  4. Simmer for 15 minutes: This allows the sauce to thicken and the flavors to develop.

Easy BBQ Sauce Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • ½ yellow onion
  • 1½ cup Ketchup (NO High Fructose Corn Syrup)
  • ½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 oz lightly packed Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 t Kosher Salt
  • 1 t Black Pepper
  • ¾ t Chilli Powder
  • ¾ t Garlic Powder
  • Juice from ½ Lemon

Sauce Instructions

Heat up a stock pot. When it is hot, melt the butter and then add the onion. Let it cook down for a little. Add the ketchup, light brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt, black pepper, chili powder and garlic powder. Stir up, add the lemon juice, then stir again.

Let the sauce simmer for a bit, then bottle it or use it right away on whatever meat you have on your smoker!

Storage and leftovers

How long does homemade barbecue sauce last?

We don&rsquot typically keep it longer than a week unless it&rsquos frozen. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. A mason jar or old spaghetti jar works great.

Can you freeze homemade BBQ sauce?

Yes, to freeze the sauce, allow it to cool completely then store in a freezer safe container. I like to freeze ours in an ice cube tray and then pop the frozen BBQ sauce cubes into a gallon bag so it&rsquos easy to thaw as much or little as you need.

The sauce can also be stored in mason jars or old spaghetti jars. Make sure to leave head space for expansion. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.

Store in an air tight container.

What is chipotle BBQ sauce?

As the name suggests, the key ingredient in the sauce is the chipotle pepper. These are often made from ripened jalapeño chiles that have been smoked and dried. This gives them an unmistakable flavor that is completely different to the chiles used in most traditional BBQ sauces, such as the habanero.

Chipotle sauce can come in a few forms, with its most common form being similar to mayonnaise. However, chipotle BBQ sauce contains more ketchup and chopped tomatoes to make it more similar to traditional barbecue sauce.

I can't wait to get the move over. I also can't wait to finally savor some Kansas City BBQ for once! If you don't know about Kansas City BBQ sauce, well it's pretty famous and a big thing. Summer is going to be so much fun! BBQ sauce time! In the meantime, I'll stick to my favorite bbq sauce recipe inspired by our move and Kansas City BBQ.

Update: We have been in Kansas City for almost a year! It's been fun and quite an experience. FYI, the people here are so darn friendly! I always find myself chatting it up with strangers here. I love it. Kansas will be missed but we will be back since my husband is from Omaha..not far from KC. We'll be back in DC this summer. FYI, Kansas City bbq is even better than I thought! So yummy!

Simple BBQ Chicken Sauce

By doing so, you can also be sure the BBQ sauce free of soy and gluten, as most regular kinds of ketchup do contain wheat or soy.
