Qatar Airways Named 'World’s Best Airline'

The Doha-based carrier wins 3 awards at Skytrax World Airlines Awards

Qatar Airways has been awarded the title of World’s Best Airline for the second year in a row at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards.

The annual Skytrax survey polled more than 18 million business and leisure air travelers from 100 countries, and the winners were announced at the Farnborough Airshow, in the U.K.

Qatar Airways was also named Best Airline in the Middle East for the seventh consecutive year and received the Best Airline Staff Service award in the Middle East.

"I am extremely proud of the adulation given once again by the very people who fly — the traveling public, for their support and faith in Qatar Airways," said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.

Air travelers were surveyed during a 10-month period about their experiences with airlines on the ground and in the air. The survey measured passenger satisfaction of 200 airlines, including check-in, boarding, onboard seat comfort, food, beverages, in-flight entertainment, and staff service.

Qatar Airlines serves international cuisines ranging from European, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Far-Eastern options on its long-haul and international flights along with complimentary beer, wine, and spirits on all flights. Each seat has its own television and in-flight entertainment system with more than 1,000 programming options.

Qatar Airways is voted the World’s Best Airline for the fifth time at the 2019 World Airline Awards

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Mr Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are thrilled to be globally recognised by our customers by winning these four prestigious awards. Becoming the first airline to be named as ‘Airline of the Year’ for the fifth time is a landmark achievement and, combined with three other major Skytrax awards, it is testament to the tireless efforts of the entire Qatar Airways team. It is a proud moment for the airline as our constant innovation and service standards set the benchmark in our industry.”

Edward Plaisted of Skytrax said: “To be named as the World’s Best Airline is a great recognition of Qatar Airways high standards, and recognises the hard work and dedication from every member of staff to satisfy customers. To achieve this accolade for a fifth time is a remarkable achievement, and we congratulate them for this unique success. All of today’s award winning airlines are voted for by customers, and the focus of our annual survey is for travellers to make their own, personal choices as to which airlines they consider to be best. We operate the survey and awards in a 100% independent and impartial format according to the commitment we gave back in 1999, and whilst every winner may not be the favourite of everyone, those that disagree should understand that these are the Passenger’s Choice Awards.”

About the World Airline Awards

Celebrating their 19th anniversary, the World Airline Awards are independent and impartial, introduced in 1999 to provide a customer satisfaction study that was truly global. The awards are frequently referred to by media around the world as “the Oscars of the aviation industry”.

Over 100 customer nationalities participated in the survey with 21.65 million eligible entries counted in the results. All survey entries were screened to identify IP and user information, with duplicate, suspect or ineligible entries deleted. Over 300 airlines are featured in the 2018/2019 survey results. The customer survey forms were offered in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese.

The online survey operated from September 2018 to May 2019. On a year-to-year basis, further substantial increases in customer voting were recorded across the Chinese and Spanish language surveys. View the Survey Methodology.
