One of the best scent experiences happens when you walk into a home where the kitchen has been in full use — dinner’s almost ready and the aromas of the ingredients are lingering in every corner of the house. You’re hungry and ready to eat! I love hosting family and friends, and whether you're feeling Cuban cuisine or Indian, aroma plays a vital part in your night. The right aroma will ignite expectations for the rest of the meal.
Cooking is a form of art and a way to touch people's souls. Many express their love and gratitude through food, so it’s no surprise that connecting to the senses is essential. Taste, smell, and texture each play pivotal roles in completing the experience.
This chart will help you with the aromas of classic cultural flavor combinations and below are a few of my favorite recipes.
Aromatic Chicken Curry
The combination of cinnamon, creamed coconut, and curry spices delight your nose, inviting you to taste the rich flavors of the dish.
Caprese Salad with Smoked Sea Salt and Peaches
Open the palate through a basil-inspired dish with a peachy twist! Cover the peaches in a little sugar and butter, then caramelize.
Lebanese Stuffed Bell Peppers with Labneh
This Middle Eastern dish is all about the seven spices. Combine black pepper, cumin, paprika, coriander, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cardamom together until evenly blended.
Pesto di Ortica (Nettle Pesto)
Own your pesto sauce in a few simple steps and use trout, salmon, or chicken to bring this condiment to life!
Rich Braised Beef with Melting Onions
Slow-cook the meat in a beef stock with onions, mushrooms, and a few tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce.
After dinner, I like to offer my guests tea or coffee, and I light a candle as I get a few sweet bites together for dessert. My go-tos are lavender sage or cinnamon spice from Get Wickd — these aromas are the perfect transition from a lively meal to a relaxing atmosphere. The meal is complete, so its aroma should also fade away. Remember, the way to your friends’ hearts is through their stomachs, and their noses are the gateway to their appetites!

Our Best Date-Night Recipes for Two
There are plenty of recipes worthy of a special occasion like a date night at home, but most are designed to serve at least four people. While that's not always an issue&mdashwho doesn't want a lovely leftover meal for lunch or dinner?&mdashthere are some times when a home cook may not want the excess ingredients or food on hand. When that's the case, these recipes for two are exactly what you need.
This collection of two-serving recipes includes cocktails and appetizers to start the night off, several main courses and exciting side dishes to enjoy them with, and a spectacular dessert for a sweet finish. Start with a sip of our very romantic Pink Gin Martini&mdashits rose-colored hue speaks Valentine's Day, thanks to the inclusion of cherry kirsch. Looking for a drink that offers a little more kick? Try our recipe for a Habanero-Hibiscus Sour a sweet simple syrup made with habanero chiles and dried hibiscus flowers creates a bouquet of flavor.
When it comes to the main course, nothing says a special date night dinner like a juicy steak served with roasted vegetables or a crisp salad. We have plenty of recipes including a dressed-up Rib-Eye with Jalapeño Butter, as well as a more classic Flat-Iron Steak au Poivre. Serve either with this next-level Radicchio Salad with Chopped-Lemon Dressing. Finish the meal off with rich and decadent Chocolate-Mousse Parfaits. They're topped with a lightly sweetened whipped cream and crushed spice cookies (yet another reason to dig in).
Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, Valentine's Day, or just spending some quality time with your partner, these recipes for two are worthy of romantic dinner any night of the week.
10. Cheese Soufflé
Like Audrey Hepburn's culinary school instructor in Sabrina puts it: "The soufflé it must be gay, gay, gay. Like two butterflies dancing the waltz in the summer breeze." Doesn't it make you want to channel your inner French chef?
What to drink: Both a red Beaujolais and a white riesling would work.
For dessert: Some salted butter caramels. Find the recipe here.
5 Ridiculously Easy Gourmet Dinner Recipes
Gourmet dinners don't have to be complicated -- in fact, sometimes simple is best!
Inspired by one of the most popular Cooking Light chicken recipes, this dish is full of flavor and and incredibly easy to prepare. The chicken is first seasoned with garlic powder, chili powder, cumin and smoked paprika and then broiled with a sweet and tangy honey glaze. GET THE RECIPE
In this easy and elegant dish, salmon fillets are dusted with a Southwestern spice rub, and then broiled and glazed with maple syrup. The spices create a delicious top crust and add a hint of heat and bitterness to balance out the sweetness of the syrup and pineapple salsa.
This is one of my go-to recipes when I have to hit the kitchen running. It takes just 20 minutes to make, I always have all of the ingredients on hand, the kids love it as much as I do, and there's barely any clean-up! I like to serve it over pasta or with a lightly toasted baguette for mopping up all of the garlic-butter sauce. It also makes a fabulous appetizer for a party -- just keep the tails on and serve with plenty of napkins. GET THE RECIPE
Flat iron steak is one of my favorite cuts of beef for home cooking. It's similar to flank or skirt steak, only much more tender -- in fact, after the tenderloin, it's the second most tender cut. Here, I've broiled it and topped it with a rich Asian-style brown sauce. With buttered rice and a steamed vegetable, it's an easy and elegant dinner that you can have on the table in under 30 minutes. GET THE RECIPE
Crab cakes are a high-priced menu item at many restaurants, but they're often loaded with filler. These Maryland-style crab cakes are made with lump crab meat and just enough filler to bind the cakes together -- and they're incredibly easy to make. GET THE RECIPE
This is an easy and incredibly flavorful way to prepare boneless skinless chicken breasts. I can't claim it's authentic, but the spices -- an aromatic blend of cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, ginger, paprika and coriander -- make it taste decidedly Moroccan, and it also goes wonderfully with couscous. The best part is that it only takes minutes to prepare, and there's barely any clean up. GET THE RECIPE
A specialty of Argentina, chimichurri is a tangy, zesty condiment traditionally served with grilled meats. Emerald in color and packed with loads of fresh herbs, olive oil, vinegar and garlic, it's like a cross between vinaigrette and pesto. This version -- made from a fragrant blend of parsley, mint and cilantro -- pairs beautifully with spice-rubbed beef tenderloin filets. It's a nice recipe for entertaining because it's impressive, yet easy to make you can have the entire dish on the table, start to finish, in about 30 minutes. GET THE RECIPE
Pulled Pork Recipes for Every Occasion This Season
If you ask any pitmaster, they're likely to agree that the key to perfect pulled pork has a lot to do with how long the meat has been cooking. Unlike quickly searing a steak or some shrimp, cooking a pork shoulder on low for hours allows the moisture and flavors of the meat to be sealed inside. This pulled pork recipe recipe mimics the 'low and slow' method, and the juicy result is certainly worth it. It's tender, soft, and melts in your mouth. Even better news? You've probably got most of the ingredients you need to make this exceptional pulled pork already in your pantry or fridge &ndash now all you need is a great pork shoulder. This simple recipe calls for a few sweet onions, some seasoning blend, chicken broth, salt, and a tenderloin. That's it. Give the pork between eight to ten hours in your slow cooker, and it will be fork tender and ready to shred by dinner time. Plus, it'll fill your house with a mouth-watering aroma.
Pulled pork is a regional classic, and we believe that all Southerners should be able to make it. This slow cooker pulled pork is a great foundation for both amateur and seasoned cooks, and doesn't take much time to prepare in advance. When it comes to seasoning the meat, we recommend a spice blend of garlic powder, oregano, and crushed red pepper. You can often find this already blended in the spice aisle of your local grocery store, but don't be afraid to mix up the ingredients if you've already got them all on hand. We tested this recipe with McCormick Grill Mates Backyard Brick Oven Seasoning, but try swapping in your favorite pork rub if desired. If you'd rather not serve this great pork dinner recipe as a main dish, it can easily be subbed into many of your other favorite recipes. Try making Pulled Pork Nachos for game day or as a Friday night family dinner treat. Or, whip up some Pork Noodle Bowls as a cozy dinner recipe on cold evenings. We also love topping this juicy pork with our favorite local barbecue sauces &ndash like Alabama white sauce &ndash and serving as a pulled pork sandwich next to some creamy potato salad and a cup of banana pudding. If you're looking to share this recipe with friends, we definitely recommend preparing 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Pulled Pork for your next potluck or church gathering you'll have everyone asking for the recipe.
