Highland Park Distillery is located in the Highlands of Scotland on the Island of Orkney which is famous for its heather rich meadows, and its unique organic Orcadian peat. The 12 Year Old Highland Park Whisky (Viking Honour) is the part of the new core range of the distillery, which includes as well the 10 Year Old (Viking Scars) and the 18 Year Old (Viking Pride).
According to the sell sheets provided to me, the 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky’s flavour is predominantly driven by 1st fill European casks (Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks), providing a darker natural colour than the 10 Year old and a more mature fruity character. The flavour is of course also driven by the hand cut aromatic peat from the Hobbister Moor which is used (by burning) to dry a portion of the malted barley.

So, what’s in a Rum Cruiser Cocktail?
Well, banana liqueur, coconut rum and pineapple juice to start. What’s not to love, right? Isn’t that how all the best cocktails start? Add a little amber rum and a little orange juice, and you have perfection in a glass.
The first few times I made this cocktail, I made it like a martini, shaking it with ice and serving it up in a martini glass. When our summer heat wave arrived, I decided to try making the Rum Cruiser as a frozen cocktail, throwing all the ingredients in a blender with a couple of handfuls of ice. The results were beyond delicious and so refreshing for summer.
If you’re looking for a delicious frozen drink to serve at your next pool party or backyard BBQ, you have to try my Rum Cruiser Cocktail recipe. I can pretty much guarantee it will become your new favorite drink for summer.
Rum Cruiser Cocktail Ingredients (Serves 2)
- banana liqueur – Also known as Creme de Banana (or Banane) it’s commonly used in tropical drinks. Ever tried muddling a banana??
- coconut rum – There are several types of rum, coconut rum is usually clear and can be easily found at any liquor store.
- light or amber rum – Depending on where you live, amber rum is also called gold rum.
- pineapple juice – Because this is a mixed drink, we suggest buying canned pineapple juice. Unless you happen to have a pineapple lying around. Just sayin’.
- orange juice – You can squeeze your own if you like, but that takes time. Instead, buy the no-pulp bottle at the grocery store.
- ice – You’ll need this whether you are making a martini (for shaking) or a slushie (for the blender).
- pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry – It’s just so pretty! Don’t skip the garnish!
Helpful Cocktail Making Tools
What’s a cocktail without a pretty garnish? Before preparing your Rum Cruiser, prepare your garnishes so you can simply pour and serve your ice cold drinks as soon as they’re blended.
I made a simple garnish by skewering a maraschino cherry and a piece of fresh pineapple together with a cocktail toothpick. A small slice in the pineapple makes it easy to wedge the garnish to the rim of your glass.
Making the cocktail itself couldn’t be any easier!
Rum Cruiser Slushie Style
Combine the coconut rum, regular rum, banana liqueur, pineapple juice and orange juice in a blender.
I use a Ninja Master Prep blender for this because the blades are amazing for crushing ice. Bonus, the Ninja Master Prep is really affordable and can be used for all kinds of job around the kitchen such as pureeing soup, chopping vegetables, blending smoothies etc.
Next, just add your ice, and blend it all together. You can experiment with different blending times. If you want your cocktail to be slushy, blend briefly, pulsing until the ice is just crushed. Want it smoother? Blend it longer.
Martini Style Rum Cruiser
Alternatively, if you prefer a martini-style cocktail, just pop your ingredients into a martini shaker, add a few ice cubes and shake for 30 seconds until your drink is thoroughly chilled. Strain and serve.

12. 3/4 Lemonade & 1/4 Vodka
This is probably one of the most simple vodka drinks out there. Suggested by @samtrottierr, all you literally have to do is order a Lemonade, and then add in vodka for one of the most refreshing summer drinks to sip on while soaking up the sun.
13. Black Tea Lemonade with Whisky
If you're looking for fruity summer cocktail recipes, we would recommend you to stay away from this recipe submitted by @leaf401, who is more hardcore than the average drinker. We haven't personally given this summer whiskey drink a taste test yet, but if you like whiskey, tea, and lemonade, this one's for you. Who knows, it may be one of the best whiskey cocktails you've ever had. At Starbucks, order a Black Tea Lemonade, then add your whiskey of choice. We would recommend to stay away from the specialty whiskies such as Fireball and to stick with the standard whiskey choices. Jack Daniels, Jameson, or Crown Royal would probably be better suited.

Pusser’s ‘Gunpowder Proof’ is a traditional Royal Navy style rum produced at original Admiralty strength and in accordance with the Admiralty’s blending recipe last used when the Royal Navy discontinued its daily ration on 31 July 1970.
Gunpowder Proof: Prior to the invention of the hydrometer, the Royal Navy ship’s “Pusser” shutdown claims of watering down sailors’ daily tots by dousing a bit of gunpowder in the rum and attempting to light. If the mixture ignited, the rum was “at proof.” If it didn’t, the Pusser might find himself tossed to sea.

Nose: Pungent molasses, treacle, toffee, honey and vanilla with oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger
Body: Full-bodied with a more enhanced flavour profile than the lower proof Blue Label
