How Many Calories Does Buddy the Elf Eat?


And you thought your Thanksgiving plate was bad...

Buddy the Elf eats his weight in sugar.

It has been more than a decade since Buddy the Elf of Elf fame entered our lives and ignited our Christmas dreams with his hilarity and kind heart. The story of a human man born into the North Pole elfish community gave us tons of memorable quotes, made us shed a few warm-hearted tears, and certainly had us laughing the entire time. While there are seemingly endless memorable scenes in the movie, undoubtedly the funniest are when Buddy eats.

The first glimpse we get of Buddy indulging in his daily diet is at the family dinner table, where we watch him drizzle a flask of syrup onto his spaghetti. It was then that we learned the four main food groups of elves:

● Candy

● Candy Canes

● Candy Corn

● Syrup

In the spirit of Christmas and all things Buddy the Elf, we were curious — if Buddy really eats only those main sugary dishes, exactly how many calories would he consume? We checked out some of his favorite dishes from the film, including sweets like the hot cocoa he loves to drink and the Toll House cookie dough roll he loves to eat, and found out exactly how many times he eats them a day and how many calories that would amount to. The grand total?

Buddy the Elf Breakfast

In the 2003 movie, Elf, Buddy the elf makes his own breakfast with a load of sugar. I do not recommend this recipe to diabetics, anyone with allergies, or anyone else that has problems with this food.


Dinner n’ a Movie: “Elf” and Buddy’s Maple Syrup Spaghetti

Boy do I have a fun recipe for you today that I am so excited to share!

Awhile back I shared that I loved the Disney movie Ratatouille and included a recipe for Ratatouille Pasta. I commented that it would be fun to cook up that pasta dish for dinner and watch the movie while eating, similar to the “Read It, Eat It” feature I have.

Well I have another dinner and a movie combo for you (which, like the “Read it, Eat It” I think will become a regular feature). For today’s “Dinner n’ a Movie” I a featuring a holiday favorite, the movie Elf!

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies! I watch it every holiday season (some years more than once) and still laugh out loud every.single.time.I.watch!

This “Dinner n’ a Movie” would make for a fun family night or even date night (as we had). I made a whole event of it (all inspired by the movie)! We of course watched the movie Elf, made gingerbread houses, made homemade ornaments and paper snowflakes, ate a wonderful dinner complete with Christmas cookies for dessert!

For the dinner, I made a meal inspired by Buddy’s, the Elf, favorite food: spaghetti with maple syrup!

No, my version isn’t quite like Buddy’s. I didn’t pour maple syrup right over my pasta, but instead made a homemade sweet marinara sauce, sweetened with (yup you guessed it) the maple syrup!

This sauce is chunky and is beautifully layered with flavors. The maple syrup adds just enough sweetness to cut through the acidic tones of the tomatoes, yet there is still long lasting flavor. I absolutely love this sauce! It is my favorite sauce to date and I was shocked when Eric (who has complained that homemade sauce I made in the past was not as good as good as jarred) declared this was the only marinara sauce he ever wanted again!

Served up with some meatballs, a side salad and some Coke, this meal and date night was one of the best eva!

Buddy’s Maple Syrup Spaghetti (a.k.a. Sweet Marinara Sauce)

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20-25 minutes Makes about 2 ½ cups

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (28 ounce) can petite diced tomatoes*
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3-5 tablespoons pure maple syrup or brown sugar (add to desired sweetness)
Spaghetti, cooked according to package directions, for serving

Heat oil in a large sauce pan over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 2-3 minutes or until translucent. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Stir in remaining ingredients. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.

Serve hot sauce over prepared pasta.

*Note: For a less chunky sauce, replace diced tomatoes with an additional can of tomato sauce.


Buddy The Elf&rsquos Candy And Pop-Tart Spaghetti Is On An Actual Restaurant Menu Right Now

The dish stays true to the four main (Buddy the Elf-approved) food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. This take on Buddy's favorite breakfast is spaghetti topped with strawberry, coconut, chocolate, and raspberry sauce, marshmallows, and S'Mores Pop-Tarts. Where's the "candy" requirement, you ask? Well, it's in the M&Ms, Oreos, and Fruity Pebbles. Duh.

According to the New York Post, the possibly inedible dish is going for $15, which is either really worth it or really not, depending on how big of an Elf fan you are. The Post also explains you aren't required to eat your sundae with silverware&mdashit's optional.

There aren't many people who seem to have ordered it yet (at least according to Instagram geotags), but once word gets out, it's sure to be a gigantic, magical hit.

Congratulations! You did it! World's best take on an Elf breakfast. Great job, everybody. It's a great time to be alive.

Chances are you'll need a break from the family at some point today and unless you're a die-hard holiday traditionalist, it's fair game to break out the Christmas movies as of right. wait for it. now! We love the classics, of course, but it wouldn't be the happiest time of the year without our favorite 21st century holiday flick, Elf.

There are so many gems in this movie, and one-liners that could make even Scrooge crack a smile. Will Ferrell's performance of Buddy the Elf reminds us every year to hang on to our sense of humor and innocence during what can be a hectic, stressful, crazy time of year. It's a Chow Bella favorite, so here's our list of the seven best food-related scenes from Elf.

To kick things off we'll start at Buddy's first dinner with his newly discovered human family. Evidently, the average elf diet closely resembles that of a Canadian five-year-old around Christmas and Buddy's enthusiasm over the spaghetti-syrup combo almost makes us want to try it for ourselves.

6. "You did it! World's best cup of coffee. "

The Big Apple can be a scary place for young children, people from small towns. and elves from the North Pole. Buddy, unfamiliar with the insincere ways of the world, takes advertising to heart.

5. "You sit on a throne of lies."

Will Ferrell always seems to say the most outrageous insults, written in the script or off the cuff from the depths of his own wild mind. But in telling the department store Santa he "smells like beef and cheese," we think he hit the nail on the head.

4. "Sit still."

Childhood innocence doesn't get more real than putting things that don't belong into your mouth. So Buddy goes the doctor, he uses slight of hand to sneak just one more of those fluffy, yummy cotton balls. Mmmm.

3. "Syrup in coffee, why didn't I think of that!"

Leave it to Buddy to, one, make friends with the folks working in a giant dingy mailroom and, two, turn the whole affair into a joyous party. All it takes is a little special syrup.

2. "I painted a picture of a butterfly!"

If you lave an elf home alone, prepare to have your abode turned into a winter wonderland - that is, after he overcomes his fear of the growling radiator. For breakfast Buddy revives the leftover spaghetti and syrup and adds a few other treats to mix. We've always wondered how Ferrell managed to eat this chocolate-spaghetti-Pop Tart mess without gagging.

Dr. Nowzaradan 1200 Calorie Diet Plan: The secret to ‘My 600-lb Life’

If you’ve ever watched TLC’s hit show My 600lb Life , you might be familiar with Dr. Nowzaradan’s 1200 calorie diet plan for his patients. It seems as though this plan has more items on the “do not eat” list, than the allowed category.

When patients seek out help from the world renowned bariatric surgeon, they are in a critical state for weight loss surgery. Turning to bariatric surgery for weight loss is a lifetime commitment. Most think the surgery fixes all weight issues, when in reality, it’s a never ending process. Not only do you need to lose a substantial amount of weight pre-surgery, but post-op has many stages including a liquid diet, a rigorous supplement regimen, and portion restrictions. Weight loss surgery is not as simple as reducing the size of the stomach. The patient still has to establish new eating behaviors and learn new habits, for their new stomach and digestive system. Eating just a tad over budget can lead to dangerous consequences. Education still plays a vital role in this weight loss method.

Before any bariatric surgery, every patient is given a goal for weight loss. Losing weight before the operation not only proves the level of commitment from the patient, but decreases the chance of surgical complications. It also begins the healthy lifestyle journey for the person and shows them how to begin establishing new eating patterns. During this pre-op stage, the amount of weight each patient has to lose varies depending on current weight, gender, age, activity levels, etc. No two people will have the same goal for dropping the pounds.

Dr. Nowzaradan 1200 Calorie Diet Plan: The Breakdown

Dr. Now’s technique for cutting down on weight is by following a strict 1,200 calorie (maximum) diet plan. Some of the more severe, morbid obese patients go as low as 1,000 calorie for their limit. Not only are patients drastically dropping in the amount of calories they consume each day, but the foods they are consuming are not a part of their current diet plan, no surprise. This strict nutrition plan is a low-fat, low-carb, high protein combination. Most of the diet regimen seems promising consuming lots of plant based proteins, keeping up with hydration, monitoring behaviors associated with eating patterns. The down-fall is the daunting list of ‘no-go’ foods.

The list of foods that are off limits while shedding pounds consist of:

  • Sugar
  • Desserts: cakes, candies, ice cream, cookies
  • Sweetened fruit or frozen yogurt
  • Chocolate
  • Potatoes of any sort – mashed, french fries, chips
  • Crackers
  • Minimal breads including anything whole wheat
  • Nuts and nut butters
  • Fruit juices
  • Noodles and rice
  • White and brown rice
  • Soda, sports drinks, energy drinks

This is just to give you a general idea of all the off-limit items. Yes, most of these foods have very minimal nutritional value. But things like whole wheat bread and 100% fruit juices can provide much of the daily intake of vitamins, minerals and fiber! Carbs are our friends, not the enemy.

Looking back at this list, it’s seems to be a fair mix of what is considered ‘junk food’ and nutrient dense foods. Think about being put in the shoes of these weight loss surgery seekers. Their current state of weight did not happen overnight. This is years and years of detrimental relationships with food. The foods on this list, plus much more, is what brought them to this point. Yet, handing them this index of off-limit items is supposed to go over without a breeze. If you’ve ever watched the show, even if you have not, you can guess how patients would react to this list.

Not to mention, let’s have patients go from eating thousands and thousands of calories on a daily basis to 1,200. *Insert wide-eye emoji* No wonder dieters throw in the towel, not only in this setting but with any fad diet, after a short amount of time. Drastically changing eating habits over night does not happen. Handing someone a list of foods you can and cannot eat does not set them up for success. It only makes you feel deprived and hungry. Looking at that list, what would you learn about your eating patterns? Not much, since there is no accountability or guidance while undergoing these habit changes.

How Does Noom Compare to Dr. Nowzaradan’s 1200 Calorie Diet Plan?

When it comes to weight loss, no matter if you’re looking to lose 100+ lbs. or shed 5, it’s not about what you can and cannot eat but how you can eat your favorite foods. I Tried To Make Candy Spaghetti Like Buddy The Elf

I love Christmas. I love spaghetti. I love Elf. It was only a matter of time before I tried to make Buddy the Elf's spaghetti recipe. In a desperate attempt to get in the Christmas spirit, I binge watched holiday favorites like Love, Actually, Elf, and all the Christmas episodes of The Office. My two takeaways were 1.) Steve Carell deserves an Emmy, and 2.) I should make candy spaghetti RIGHT. NOW.

Buddy, ever faithful to his four favorite food groups (candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup, for those wondering), always made sure to work all of those ingredients into a bowl of pasta — so I decided, for the sake of Christmas, to try it myself. Which is exactly what I did.

I bought a bunch of candy and a single jar of tomato sauce, and confused the Trader Joe's cashier, all in the name of Christmas. And guess what? It's awful. Buddy's spaghetti is truly awful. Which is crazy, because I adore all of these ingredients separately, but together they are just the worst.

Maybe I hated it because I was raised on Staten Island, and not in the North Pole? Maybe I hated it because I was not allowed to have candy growing up? Or maybe I hated it because it's tomato sauce topped with chocolate syrup and candy, and it is crazy to think that this combination might ever be delicious. Below is the recipe I made up based on the scene in the movie. Proceed with caution.

Buddy The Elf Spaghetti Recipe

Serves one (or zero if you hate it like I did)

Ingredients:

  • Spaghetti
  • Tomato sauce
  • M&Ms
  • Chocolate chips
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Pop-Tarts (crushed)
  • Marshmallows

Instructions:

1. Cook your spaghetti to perfection.

2. Add your preferred tomato sauce, maple syrup, M&Ms, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, marshmallows, and crushed Pop-Tart.

3. Mash together with your hands as Buddy does.

My Overall Review:

See how he is gobbling it up? Here is me moments before I gagged and had to trash it.

The problem with the recipe is the tomato sauce. Without that, I'm sure this would have been delicious. Without the sauce, it would have been just carbs and sugar, and who could hate that?

I'm sure this is delicious to elves in the North Pole, but for those of us raised on human food, I do not recommend. Big thumbs down.

Am I In The Christmas Spirit Though?

YUP. The good news is that this experiment put me in the Christmas spirit — a feat I believed to be impossible, especially in this 50 degree New York City weather. Plus, I will most definitely watch Elf again, just because it is the best holiday movie. But I will never again eat pasta with any kind of topping that you'd also find in a kid's Halloween bag.
